A ductless system is a good option for many homes in West Columbia, SC because it’s easy to install. One problem you might encounter, though, is water coming from the system. We’ll explain why you might see water running out of your ductless HVAC system.
Broken Drain Pan
The drain pan is there to capture any moisture that comes from the system, but a broken or damaged pan allows that water to pour out. Damage can occur because someone who worked on the system dropped the pan. Rust is another leading cause of drain pan damage.
Dirty Filter
A dirty air filter can also cause water to run out of your ductless system because it allows pollutants and particles like dust to form on top of the coils. In these cases, the coils freeze, but the lack of airflow causes the ice to melt. As it melts, it can rush out of your system and look like a leak.
Condensate Line Clog
Your ductless system has a condensate line that transfers water out of the drain pan. Even a small clog in this line prevents the line from moving the water. This causes it to fall back into the pan and run over the side.
Frozen Compressor
There’s also a chance that the compressor has frozen over. This can happen a s a result of restricted airflow due to a clogged air filter or because the compressor coil is dirty and cannot exchange heat effectively.
